The challenge was to design an identity and website for a new, high-value conference that bills itself as “The Greatest Conference Ever Created for WordPress Developers.” That’s called setting the bar.
The organizers wanted to make it apparent that this conference was geared towards developers, from the naming and dot-io domain all the way through to the identity.
Early on, we explored several concepts that used monospaced fonts and alternate spellings like “loop_conf” to create the development connection. During that process, we took the monospace idea, where each letter occupies the same horizontal space, a step further and based each letter on the same underlying shape (monounderlyingshapespaced). Visually, it was simple, interesting, and had an immediate tech vibe.
